ReStore Deconstruction Services
What is Deconstruction?
Deconstruction is the process of hand dismantling to salvage useable portions of rooms or buildings. Salvaged items are recycled through the ReStore. Typical deconstructed items are:
Kitchen cabinets
Doors and Windows
Sinks, toilets and plumbing fixtures
Lighting fixtures
Benefits of Deconstruction vs. “wrecking ball” demolition
Volunteer construction workers are a highly visible keystone of Habitat for Humanity, but much work needs to be done long before construction begins. Whether you are construction-minded or not, the ReStore has a place for you. The Detroit ReStore operates much the same as a Lowes or Home Depot, and there are many opportunities to help. ReStore volunteers work in many areas:
Lower overall project cost by taking advantage of tax deductibility of donated items.
Reduce environmental impact of building removal
Conserve resources by recycling building materials
Support Habitat’s mission to reduce substandard housing
