Volunteer Registration:
Dear Habitat Volunteer:
Thank you for taking the time to make the arrangements for yourself and/or your
group to become a part of Habitat for Humanity Detroit. The mission of Habitat for
Humanity Detroit is to partner with God and families in need of adequate housing,
bringing together people from all walks of life to revitalize Detroit neighborhoods
through the construction of decent, affordable homes. Our mission can only be accomplished
through the generous volunteer support of people like yourself. Please read all
sections of this Volunteer Menu thoroughly; it describes everything you need to
know regarding a construction volunteer date with Habitat for Humanity Detroit.
We build weekly every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday (8:00 a.m. – 4:00
p.m.) Our current construction work is taking place in the MorningSide Commons area
off 94 FYW (between Warren & Mack; near Alter Road). In the fall and winter
months, we build every Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday only.
Age Requirements:
Volunteers should be at least 18 years old, although 16 and 17-year-old youth volunteers
may come if accompanied by one adult supervisor for every four youths. Volunteers
ages 16 and 17 years old are not allowed to use any power tools or work from heights
(on a roof or on scaffolding) on the construction site. Adult supervisors accompanying
16 and 17 year old persons assume responsibility of compliance.
IMPORTANT:
Individuals ages 16 & 17 without an adult supervisor and persons younger than
16 years of age are not permitted to volunteer on the construction site due to Human
Resources guidelines.
Confirming A date to volunteer:
- View our on-line volunteer calendar and create an account to sign-up. If you are
associated with a group or a house sponsor, please be sure to indicate that in your
profile.
- Fill out a volunteer Waiver of Liability Form and bring it to the site with you.
Do not fax the form. Anyone ages 16-18 MUST have a parent or Guardian’s signature
on the Waiver for minors to volunteer at the construction site.
