Youth Involvement
So many ways for Youth Involvement...

Habitat Clubs:
Form a Habitat Club at your school or church and help Habitat Detroit bring awareness for the need of decent affordable housing, and plan fundraising activities to help with the cost of building our houses. Habitat Clubs are fun opportunities for youth to develop leadership, team building and social skills while helping others.

Landscaping:
Youth of all ages can grow plants for our homeowners then schedule a volunteer day to do the plant. Great volunteer opportunity for youth groups and classrooms. Adult leadership needed. For every four youth, one adult supervisor is needed.

Office:
Volunteers at least 15 years old are able to assist with copying, phone calls, mailings, and data entry in our administrative office. Office volunteer days are Tuesday - Friday; 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. or the full day.

ReStore:
Youth ages 14 and older can give a helpful hand at our ReStore where will make available for purchase new and used construction material to the public. ReStore volunteer days are Tuesday - Saturday; 9:00 - 1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. or the full day. Scope of work for minors at the ReStore include:
Straightening/organizing stock
Cleaning up yard/parking area
Unloading trucks
Loading customer purchases

Construction:
Youth ages 16 and older can assist with the construction of our houses. These youth are restricted from using all power tools or working from heights (on roof or on scaffolding). Construction volunteer days are Wednesday - Saturday weekly; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Youth ages 16 & 17 need to be accompanied by an adult supervisor that will work alongside him/her. For youth groups, for every four youth 16 & 17 year olds, one adult supervisor must volunteer with them. Scope of work for 16 & 17 year olds on the construction site that DOES NOT include the use of power tools:
Painting
Sanding
Landscape
Yard work
Lay drain tile
Gravel work
Grading
Cleaning site
