Habitat for Humanity Detroit receives numerous requests from Veterans for critical home repairs each year – far more requests than we can accommodate. In an effort to bridge the gap between community needs and Habitat Detroit’s ability to provide repair work we are launching the “Veterans Repair Blitz.”
This initiative seeks to transform the homes of eight veterans* during the month of November, in conjunction with Veteran’s Day. Habitat Detroit is currently seeking companies and contractors to support our efforts through the donation of goods, services, and financial contributions. Support of this initiative will help Habitat Detroit provide housing stability and safety to our military heroes who gave so much for our safety and freedom.
The “Veterans Repair Blitz” will be part of Habitat’s Critical Home Repair program. This program seeks to help low-income homeowners and military veterans with their most urgent repair issues. Habitat Detroit plans to complete 24 Critical Home Repairs this year with 16 aimed specifically at serving area Veterans. By providing home repairs for Veterans in need Habitat Detroit seeks to ensure these homes are stable, decent, and safe, all factors that have been linked to positive health outcomes. Through the “Veterans Repair Blitz” Habitat Detroit will not simply provide home reapirs, we will provide long-term benefits for our Detroit Veteran homeowners and the communities in which they live.
